Summertime - reflections on a hot summer

‘And summer’s lease hath all too short a date’.
William Shakespeare

I read somewhere that this has been the hottest and driest summer since 1976 and that it’s engulfing effect has been near global, at least that is presumably in the northern hemisphere.  I find myself now, along with many others,  longing for the cooler embrace of autumn.  What effect this weather has had on birds is not yet apparent, but I imagine the warmth suited many breeders though those on the southern fringes of their range may not have faired so well.
